SER 96 – Craig Hill – Money Management With Godly Wisdom

Finances and Christianity, do they mix well together? Did you know that Jesus spend a lot of time discussing money. One author suggests that “in all the Bible’s teaching about money one word comes to the forefront – wisdom. We are to be wise with our money. We are to save money, but not hoard it. We are to spend money, but with discretion and control. We are to give back to the Lord, joyfully and sacrificially. We are to use our money to help others, but with discernment and the guidance of God’s Spirit. It is not wrong to be rich, but it is wrong to love money. It is not wrong to be poor, but it is wrong to waste money on trivial things. The Bible’s consistent message on managing money is to be wise.”

Stay tuned for my conversation about financial planning for today and the future with Craig Hill in this episode of SER

  1. Hello Pastor Mike,
Earlier this summer, after much prayer and research, I made an investment – in Solar. I had a Solar PV grid-tied system installed on my property (Pennsylvania) that will eliminate all, or the majority of, my electric bill. It’s been operational for less than two weeks so I can’t testify to it’s impact on my utility bill, but by monitoring the bi-directional electric meter I see that the system has fed the grid more than we’ve received from the grid. If this continues, and I expect it will, our next utility bill (and following ones for potentially the next 20 years or more) should be for only the connection fee. At the end of a years production (higher output in summer, lower in winter – dependent on hours of sun available each day) the savings realized should confirm that this was a wise investment – far, far better than money setting in a bank.

I consider it a wise investment for my family, my community and my country. And I think our Lord will give me the opportunity to share with others (as I am doing here) His guidance in making this decision and the wisdom of it.

Of course this enhancement to my property (God has blessed me with the property and it is His to do with as He pleases) also makes it more of a Naboth’s vineyard (1 Kings 21). But we shall see how this all works out. And as I am in Christ, having been baptized into His death and am now a new creature walking in newness of life (Romans 6), and having His Spirit in me, nothing can separate me from the love of God (Romans 8), not even an Ahab/Jezebel.

Thank you Pastor Mike for your interview with Mr. Hill and for letting me share my thoughts.

    Securely in Him,
    Bud

    • Hi Bud:

Thank you for writing friend. Kathy and I are in the beginning stages of building a hoe on 6 acres of property we recently purchased. Our plan is to include solar as well. I look forward to seeing how this will assist us in becoming less dependent on the utility company. God bless you today brother.

      Mike
